QUEPEM: Panic spread in the Gonvoll ward of Avedem Cotombi panchayat in Quepem on Thursday morning following reports that all seven members of a family tested positive for Covid-19.
The health officer of Quepem primary health centre (PHC), Dr Lorna Fernandes, told TOI that one member of the family with mild fever had visited at the health centre on Saturday and was found positive on Sunday. Swab samples of the other six members from his family were collected on Sunday and all of them reported positive on Wednesday night.
The head of the family is a fish vendor and sells fish in two wards of the panchayat, Gonvoll and Gaunthan. As panic spread in the village after the entire family was detected with the virus, sarpanch Aleluia Afonso requested the PHC doctors to collect swab samples of all those who were in touch with the fish vendor and other family members.
Health officials rushed to Gonvoll on Thursday morning and collected 101 swab samples of their neigbours and of people from other wards since the fish vendors sold fish door to door and had contacted hundreds of people in the village.
After a meeting held on Thursday. the panchayat requested all those whose swabs are collected to remain indoors till their results are out.
